Dr. Catherine Macharia-Mutie

IGNITE Deputy Team Leader

Dr. Catherine Macharia-Mutie is a development professional with over 10 years of experience in public health nutrition and currently the Deputy Team Leader for the Impacting Gender & Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture (IGNITE) program based in Kenya.

As a seasoned and compassionate nutrition expert, Catherine has managed complex programs and projects in nutrition (for both nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive focus) and food systems spanning across countries in sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso). She also has extensive monitoring and evaluation experience and have contributed to internationally renowned peer reviewed nutrition publications and conferences.

Catherine has worked extensively with academia, government, and international NGOs. She has previously held various roles with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and Kenya Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. She has also taught both bachelors and masters nutrition students at the University of Nairobi, Moi and Kenyatta in Kenya. She holds a PhD (Human Nutrition) from Wageningen University, Netherlands, and MSc (Applied Human Nutrition) and BA (Anthropology) from University of Nairobi, Kenya.
