Dr. Joshua Okonya
Dr. Joshua Sikhu Okonya is the Program Officer for Agriculture Technology and Innovation at the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) Secretariat in Entebbe, Uganda.
He holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Hohenheim, a Master’s degree in Tropical and International Agriculture from the Georg-August University and a Bachelor degree in Botany and Zoology from Makerere University.
Dr. Okonya is an international agricultural research scientist with over 20 years’ experience in implementation of AR4D projects in Africa. He facilitates regional collaboration in the development, dissemination, and promotion of priority agricultural Technologies Innovations and Management Practices (TIMPs) across 15 ASARECA member countries.
He joined ASARECA from the International Potato Center (CIP) where he served as a Research Associate – Crop agronomist. He has rendered consultancy services to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), ACP-EU Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), CIP, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), and Georg-August University.
