Dr.Sheila Obim
Dr. Sheila Obim (formerly Ochugboju) is a plant biochemist and science leader recognized for her work advancing agricultural biotechnology, especially in Africa. She earned her Ph.D. in plant biochemistry from the University of London and completed postdoctoral research at Oxford focused on genetically modified viruses for pest control.
As Executive Director of the Alliance for Science, she champions the use of biotechnology—such as improved seed varieties and drought-resistant crops—to boost food security and agricultural productivity. Dr. Obim leads efforts to train science advocates, counter misinformation about GMOs, and promote science-based policies that empower farmers with innovative tools and choices. Her work directly supports the adoption of frontier technologies to address hunger and drive a Green Revolution in Africa.
