Paul Lameck Kwengwere
Paul Kwengwere is the current Board Member of the International Trade Council, an institution that actively promotes sustainable economic growth by reducing barriers to trade, encouraging foreign direct investment, and facilitating international business opportunities across more than 179 countries.
In his immediate past role, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (2022-2025), where he was responsible for identifying and developing strategies that promote Malawi as an ideal investment and trade destination in Africa. Further, in the past 25 years, Paul has held technical, managerial and leadership positions in the Reserve Bank of Malawi, Malawi Common Service, Action Aid International, Investec Asset Management in London and World Education Inc. in USA. He once served as President of Economics Association of Malawi (2003-2005).
Paul has vast experience in public finance, strategic management, and development economics. He was involved in the formulation of Malawi’s Digitization Policy (2023-2028) hence his capability in relating digital infrastructure as key in improving trade in rural areas, a topic which he will elaborate on during the conference.
Through PMK Associates, a consulting firm he founded, Paul has undertaken a wide range of assignments for the Government of Malawi, inter-agencies, non-profit and donor organizations including UNDP, OXFAM, and FAO.
Paul holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School – Harvard University (USA) and is Yale University (USA) World Fellow. He also holds a Master of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Social Science from University of Malawi.
