Peter Wamboga-Mugirya
I’m a journalist by profession, a Communication specialist by occupation. I’ve trained at St. Augustine University of Tanzania in Mwanza in Environmental Communication and Journalism and at Oklahoma State University Stillwater City, USA, in Food Security and Linkages to Rural Development in East Africa. I am also a Foreign Policy Advocate/Analyst, engaging policy-makers in Political, Social, Cultural, Economic spaces, and in Foreign Policy leadership. I’m trained in Foreign Policy, Diplomacy & International Relations. Regularly in critical-thinking on issues of science, technology and innovations, vis-avis Foreign Policy, IR & Climate Change. For nearly 20 years, trained and interfaced with hundreds of scientists, farmers, policy-makers in science communication and understanding of Agri-Biotechnology through the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) in Africa of AATF, in 2000s and other fora/networks across Africa, like (AUDA/NEPAD) on Gene-drive, Gene-Therapy etc. I’ve also trained science-journalists, on Agricultural Biotechnology via Media Bio-Cafe project (2010-to-2023) of Program for Biosafety Systems (PBS), in addition to public awareness on Agri-Biotechnology via TV and Radio documentaries. I’ve trained in laboratory and field agriculture by scientists of the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) of Uganda and the International Service for Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA) on Tissue Culture (TC) and GMO-technologies, across African and Latin American countries. Closely works with Agro-Genetic Technologies (AGT) Tissue Culture company. I’m engaged in promotion agri-tech innovations and communication at Uganda Biotechnology and Biosafety Consortium (UBBC), the Science Foundation for Livelihoods and Development (SCIFODE) and at the Foreign Policy Advocacy Think-Tank Uganda (FOPATTU), where I’m a Director in the last two. 2023-2025, I’ve been a Pre-Qualified Consultant of the Feed-the-Future ISS Activity of USAID in Uganda.
