Prof. Aggrey Ambali
Professor Aggrey Ambali is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of AATF and Executive Director of the Hub for Development Research and Advisory Services (HDRAS). He retired from the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) in April 2024 where he last served as a Senior Advisor on Science, Technology and Innovation.
Aggrey Ambali has been a senior leader in agenda setting and strategy development in science, technology and innovation at the African Union level. He coordinated the development of the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa 2014-2024 (STISA 2024); collaborated in the operationalization of the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA); establishment of Grand Challenges Africa; and regional harmonization and capacity strengthening of regulatory systems in agriculture and health. He has coordinated three high level science panels at the African Union level namely, the African Union High Level Panel on Emerging Technologies (APET) from 2016 to 2019; African Union High Level Panel on Science, Technology and Innovation from 2012 to 2014; and African Union High Level Panel on Modern Biotechnology from 2005 to 2007. Recently, he led the African Union mission for assessing countries interested in hosting the headquarters of the African Medicines Agency (AMA). Prior to joining the African Union system, Aggrey Ambali was a Professor of Biology at the University of Malawi and he is a fellow of the African Academy of Sciences.
