Firew Mekbib obtained his BSc in Plant Sciences from Haramaya University, MSc in Plant Biotechnology from University of London and PhD from Norwegian University of Life Sciences. He is currently based at Haramaya University and engaged in teaching, research and outreach services in Plant biotechnology and Breeding. Advised a number of MSc and PhD students. Published considerable number of publications in peer reviewed journals. In addition, he is the President of Ethiopian Society of Biotechnology and Chairman of National Variety Release Committee of Ethiopia. He is also a member of Ethiopian Academy of Sciences.
